About the Event

by Carol A. G. Gillen, LMHC

Description:  This training will provide an overview of the history and basic  assumptions of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model of psychotherapy.  The three categories of “parts,” or sub personalities, of individuals  that most often present in therapy and the goals of IFS therapy will be  reviewed.  Methods for working with protective parts will be presented  both didactically and experientially, including a live  demonstration/role play.

Learning objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will learn:

  1.  The basic assumptions of the IFS model, including its non-pathologizing  approach and the concepts of multiplicity of the mind and “Self.”

  2.  The 3 categories of “parts” or sub-personalities that most often  present in therapy and the roles assumed by these parts of the  personality.

  3.  An intervention/technique for identifying and “befriending” a part.
